Autism - Support in Kent for adult females on the autistic spectrum

I have recently found out about monthly support groups offered by Kent Autistic Trust specifically for women with high functioning autism and Asperger's. They are held in Ashford, Medway, Canterbury and (new group) Sevenoaks. You can find out more information on the KAT website under "Family Support".
Although I know a few females with high functioning autism / Asperger's I have not heard feedback from anyone who attends these groups. I know the lady who runs them and would imagine they provide a good source of social and emotional support. If you or the person you are caring for goes along, how about posting some feedback on here about how it went?

Do you need a diagnosis to attend? I feel that my daughter is on the spectrum, which has been backed up by several psychologists and mental health professionals at her university but she was denied a diagnosis when younger because "girls don't have autism!"

I don't know the answer to that question, but I think probably not. Why don't you phone Kent Autistic Trust to find out? Their number is 01634 405168. Your experience is not uncommon. If your daughter thinks a diagnosis might be helpful, she can always request another diagnostic assessment even though she was not referred previously. Also, I know that the Kent Autistic Trust can send you a link to an online self-assessment tool which gives some idea of whether or not someone might be on the autistic spectrum. I hope this information helps :)
