Attempting to move from DLA to PIP for my son with HF autism. Onto 2nd appeal. Feeling pessimistic. Already in touch with CAB. Anyone got any tips/ experience?

Have you tried the c-app on our website which can help prepare for PIP. It might give you some help with how best to explain your circumstances?

www.carersfirst.org.uk/help-with-pip-and-esa

You can either copy the above link into your address bar or find it in the "Information Hub" drop down menu.

I think PIP is something many carers struggle to navigate so any tips or advice others can give would be useful for lots of people.

Always answer the questions with the worst scenario, and never say what you or the person you care for can do as this may distract from the answer the assessor is looking for. If you have problems with your disability for four days out if seven then that is what you're coping with not the other three days where you may be fitter and well. Assessors can only go by what you tell them and what they can see at the time so telling them what you can do on a very good day distracts from the severity of the problem. Any paperwork you have to back up the claim is useful. I am over sixty five and didn't know that I could claim attendance allowance if I became disabled and needing help after this age( I read it in a magazine). All the paper work and hospital letters I had amassed over the previous years( loads of them) that I had diligently filed away , I copied and they were sent with my claim form and I was awarded the money straight away,so save everything !!!! I hope this makes sense and helps somebody in what is a minefield of red tape.
