Chronic oedema.

Chronic oedema.

I am a carer for my partner who suffered from chronic oedema. I feel it is quite challenging to deal with as complications can happen, like sores or blisters appearing from time to time. I don't feel I know enough about the condition and feeling training on this condition would be helpful. Are there any other carers that feel the same about training for specific condition/s would help you care more confidently?

Hi. Tracy - Carers First Thanks for the post re lymphedema support network. I found them earlier today and they are kindly sending me out some information. Sadly there is no training for carers at present I hope in the future that will change, as it can help to care better and with more confidence. There is also this idea of self care, which you can only do to a point. Many lack or have little knowledge at the beginning of their caring journey, we slowly become experts over time. I have made contact with coalitionforcollaborativecare.org.uk and spoken with someone more local. We need to right information and tools to care not only more confidently but also more effectively. Sadly we are pretty much left to sink or swim. Funding as been diminishing for the past 8 years or none existent.

I will keep people informed if any progress is made re training.

Hi caringlass. I agree that training would help a great deal. Even an expert coming in to give a talk on a particular condition. Thanks for the links you and CarersFirst gave. Through that, I found another potential helpful link: Self Management Resource Center. Wish you and all the other wonderful carers out there all the very.best.
