Carers tell us talking to other carers and someone outside their situation really helps them. For some carers, it can be the only space they feel comfortable to talk about themselves and how they are feeling.
Your donations are helping us train and support carers to run their own peer support groups, run special events and activities for carers as well as give carers someone to talk to about their caring role.
Your support has helped us train carers as Peer Support Group Leaders and set up their own groups. Carers have set up cooking, art, poetry, photography and Moving On groups for former carers.
Debbie, cared for her mum Now Peer Support Group Leader
As a carer, I found so often you’re not listened too. It was such a relief to know there are people willing to listen and know what it’s like to be a carer. The support group gave me the strength to carry on. I could talk freely about my frustrations with people who understood and wouldn’t judge me. I thought if they can keep going, so can I!
Your support has helped us scale up our Telephone Befriending Service to offer more support to carers who may be feeling isolated or need someone to talk to about their caring role. For some carers, this is the only conversation they will have that’s about them. Carers have said that their befriender "listens and we have a good chat" and they "always feel better after talking."
