Adult Carers - Lincolnshire
Carers FIRST delivers the Lincolnshire Carers Service in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council's Customer Service Centre supporting people who look after a relative or friend who due to ill health, physical or mental illness, disability, frailty, or addiction cannot manage without their support.
We provide information, advice, guidance, emotional support, training and activities, giving carers an opportunity to have a break from their caring role and help them to get the support they need.

There are 6.5 million unpaid carers in the UK with three in five of us becoming a carer at some point in our lives.
For many, caring is a rewarding and positive experience, but for others, without the right help and support caring can feel overwhelming. For some, caring can trigger feelings of loneliness and frustration and many often find their physical and emotional health, work or finances affected. You don't have to wait until you are struggling or there is a crisis to talk to us.
If you are aged 18+ and support a relative or friend with tasks such as washing and dressing, paying bills, transport, emotional support, health appointments, medication and domestic tasks then we can help you with your caring responsibilities.
It is estimated there are over 79,000 people in Lincolnshire providing care for a relative or friend, the contribution to the UK economy being worth around a staggering £1.7 billion (Carers UK: valuing carers 2015)
When you are caring it can be easy to feel isolated. Our team are not office based, meaning Carers FIRST can provide emotional and practical support for you in your community to help you with your caring role, so you feel less alone and more in control.
How can we help?
Carers FIRST will support you on a one-to-one basis to understand your situation and do what we can to make things easier for you by:
- Providing information, advice and guidance specific to you as a carer and an individual
- Supporting you with conversations with people including GPs, hospitals and social care professionals
- Offering opportunities to access practical training to help you with your caring role through workshops
- Supporting you to maximise you household income by providing specialist information and check eligibility for welfare benefits and financial support
- Providing the opportunity to talk in detail about your caring role and through a carers assessment establish if you are able to access a break or help around the home. Depending on eligibility this may be funded through a carer's personal budget
- Providing opportunities to attend support groups and activities where you can meet others in a similar situation to yourself
- Staying in regular contact through our Carers Hub phone line, website, monthly e-bulletins and regular “What’s On” guides
- Providing access to talk to other carers and share peer support through our on-line Carers Forum
- Offering support for carers to plan for now, the future and emergencies
- Providing opportunities for carers to become involved in helping develop and improve services for carers
