Information and Wellbeing event: Parent Carers and Dementia Carers

Join us for a day of information and wellbeing to support you with your caring role. Aimed at carers of children with additional needs and carers of people with dementia, there will be a range of workshops to support you with your caring role including:
- Strategies to support children and young people's mental wellbeing Supporting young people’s mental wellbeing: Delivered by the local young people’s mental health service, this session will give you practical strategies you can use when helping a young person improve their mental health. As well as information on the 5 Five Steps to Wellbeing, we will be looking at the “ways of being” when interacting with young people.
- Understanding Autism and ADHD This workshop will focus on understanding the key areas of need for young people with Autism and/or ADHD and will explore Communication, Social and Emotional understanding, Rigid thinking, Sensory, Attention, Hyperactivity, Impulsivity, and Anxiety. It will be delivered in a way that is easy to understand for carers, and tools and strategies for parents to use.
- The HERBERT protocol and role of the dementia police safeguarding team. Delivered by a local PCSO, find out more about the strategies Lincolnshire Police use to help those with Dementia.
- Power of Attorney and DOLs . Delivered by LPFT's Older Adults Mental Health Team, find out more about Power of Attorney, DOLs, and how to get this in place.
- Paediatric First Aid. Learn how to give immediate care to babies and children in medical emergencies, from minor injuries to life-threatening situations.
- Autism Hub. Find out more about the Autism Hub and how it can help you.
- Bob’s Brainwaves. Find out about the support Bob's Brainwaves offer to those with a dementia diagnosis and their carers.
- Understanding Dementia behaviours. Delivered by Age Uk's I-Forget service, this session will help you understand more about different dementia behaviours like sundowning.
There will be a range of wellbeing activities in the afternoon including:
- Hand massages
- Head and/or shoulder massages
- Cake decorating
- Crafting
- Mindfulness
You can also speak to a range of professionals to find out how their organisations can support you, including Occupational Therapy, Parents and Autistic Adults Together (PAACT), National Energy Action, the Independent Travel Trainers, Wellbeing Lincs, the Carer First employment team, Children and Young People's mental health support, NRS and more.
We will also be offering a free fish and chip lunch to all carers who are with us for the day (vegan options are available)!
