We are proud to have been charity partner of Lincoln City in 2022 which has helped us raise vital funds and awareness of unpaid carers in Lincoln.
Carers First volunteers were delighted to run fundraising collections at the Crewe game in May and Morecambe game in November. The weather couldn’t have been more different at each game. A balmy summer’s day in May versus a cold and crisp autumnal day in November. However generous Imps supporters donated over £1,450 which is funding respite activities for carers in Lincoln. We also auctioned a signed Lincoln City shirt which took our fundraising total raised to over £1,500!
The donations has included a festive trip to Doddington Hall and a National Hot Chocolate Day event at Woodhall Spa, with surprise visit from Santa! Carers attending the Doddington Hall trip said,
"Without these events, I think I would become isolated in my caring role."
"It was so nice to get out and meet some lovely, like minded people...and the hall was beautiful in all its Christmassy finery".
Lincoln City donated 20 tickets to Carers First for the Morecambe game to give away to carers. This gave an opportunity for carers to enjoy a special day out, supporting their local team. One carer who attended was Paul who is looking after his wife who has cancer. Paul says,
"As a new carer, I would like to thank Lincoln City and Carers First for the opportunity to attend the recent match at Lincoln's LNER stadium where I was able to enjoy taking a break from my caring duties and talking to other like-minded carers. I have already signed up for other events Carers First have organised."
Our partnership also introduced us to actor and Lincoln City supporter Colin McFarlane who we met at Crewe game. Colin has gone onto become a wonderful ambassador for Carers First including voicing our first radio ad for our Lighten the Load campaign in October. Colin’s dad, Sidney looks after his mum who has Alzheimer’s and has been supported by Carers First.
While our charity of the year partnership with the club is coming to an end, watch this space for exciting news about a charity football match benefiting Carers First at the LNER Stadium next May.
