Carers First is excited to announce the launch of a new learning programme, Caring Confidently. The course is a 4 week programme developed with and for carers, to help increase resilience, improve wellbeing, and develop knowledge and strategies. All of these aspects will help to enable carers to be more resourceful in their caring role.
Carers First are offering the course for carers in the early part of their caring journey, to give the tools to empower carers to live their lives to the fullest whilst also being confident in their caring journey.
The course will be held quarterly, please keep in mind that one of the sessions will be held in the evening. The sessions will also allow carers to connect with others during a scheduled break to talk in smaller groups using breakout rooms, where carers can share and learn from others experiences.
Caring Confidently is delivered either online or out in the community.
The first session will be an hour long, introducing carers to carers First and what it means to take on a caring role. Sessions topics will cover the essentials of caring for someone day-to-day, accessing statutory support for carers, balancing the caring role and other commitments, and questions at the end of the session.
The second session will be and hour and a half, exploring carer wellbeing, covering topics such as how to build resilience in your caring role, why it is important to look after your own wellbeing, and how to improve wellbeing through connections, getting active, and more.
The third session of the course will be an hour long, exploring carer finances. This will include covering available welfare benefits such as types, eligibility, and how to claim. Other topics covered will include household finances such as tax and bills, debt advice, NHS continuing healthcare, and useful organisations for information and advice.
The final session on the course will be an hour and a half long, looking into supporting carers to identify early signs of deterioration in their looked after person, specifically relating to their skin, toilet habits, mobility, and levels of confusion.
