Carers First is to become one of two official charity partners for Lincoln City F.C. following a public vote.
Carers First was nominated to be in with a chance of becoming the football club’s charity partner alongside four other charities. All nominated charities were put to a public vote, and the two charities who received the highest total number of votes will be adopted as the local charity partners for 2022.
It’s estimated there are 79,000 people in Lincolnshire providing care for a relative or friend. We believe every one of those people deserves the support necessary to thrive in their role.
Carers First has been supporting carers in Lincolnshire for the last five years, with a dedicated team based in the local communities, providing information, advice and practical help for unpaid carers across the county. The support of Lincoln City F.C. will help the charity reach even more carers.
Alison Taylor, Chief Executive of Carers First, said:
“Carers First is delighted to have won the vote to become the charity partner for Lincoln City F.C. The support of such a well-loved and renowned team will help make difference to the work we do to support unpaid carers.
“Three in five of us could expect to become a carer at some point in our lives. This could be because of illness, disability or older age of a family member or friend. Obtaining relevant support can be a challenge, but with it, carers can thrive, which is why a range of accessible information and advice is so vital. Carers First has been working directly with and for, unpaid carers to deliver a range of support programmes on health, wellbeing, practical help and financial issues – available online, by phone and face-to-face in the local community, enabling us to reach more carers and make a positive, material difference to their lives.”
Daniel Fleshbourne, from Lincolnshire, cares for his wife and son, and has been supported by Carers First. He said:
“Carers First has been instrumental in supporting me in my caring role. Since reaching out to them for help, I’ve got my life back. I’m thrilled they’ve got the support of Lincoln City, being a fan of the team myself. This will help so many carers across Lincolnshire.”
Jake Longworth, Head of Communications at Lincoln City F.C., said:
“We are thrilled to welcome Carers First as a charity partner at Lincoln City FC and will do all we can to help raise their profile to achieve their objectives. The work they do is phenomenal and we are really looking forward to working with them during 2022.”
