Covid-19 and regular lockdowns have been a struggle for a lot of people, but it has especially impacted carers. We know many of our carers do not feel safe enough to see friends or family at this time due to the risk it may bring to their loved one.
Caring can take a toll on your mental wellbeing due to the stress and anxiety it can cause, but it can also cause you to isolate yourself from others.
Carers First is here to offer you support groups and social events to prevent you from becoming isolated outside of your caring role. We hope to ensure that all our carers remember to care for themselves and take time to do the things that they enjoy. Below we have put together a few links if you feel any of these topics may relate to you:
- Looking after yourself is a key part of your caring role, almost three quarters of carers in the UK reported that their mental health was impacted by their caring role. You may find it useful to view our help and advice topic on taking breaks as a carer.
- Caring can bring up a wide range of difficult emotions, which is why we have put together a guide on managing the emotions you may face in your caring role.
One of the main things we hear from carers is how much their relationships have been impacted by their responsibilities as a carer. You may notice changes in your relationship with the person you care for, but also with those outside of your caring role such as a partner, family or friends.
Carers First has put together a collection of useful information relating to different kinds of relationships, the changes that may occur, and advice on if it happens to you during your time caring for a loved one.
