Kentish Players choose Carers First as Charity of the Year
Published
03/04/23

One of Medway’s leading community musical theatre companies, the Kentish Players will be raising money and awareness for Carers First in Medway during 2023.

Each year the Kentish Players choose a local charity to support. They chose Carers First following a nomination by one of the Group’s members. Carers First arranged for respite for her mum who has dementia when her stepdad had a heart attack.

Andy Watts, Director of Income and Communications at Carers First says:

“We are delighted to be chosen as the Kentish Players Charity of the Year. As two organisations rooted in the local community, we are looking forward to working together to raise awareness and money for carers in Medway.”

At this point there was no social care in place for my Mum. I had to take time off work to take care of my Mum who was at this point in need of 24 hour care. I also had to make regular trips to London to meet with Doctors and plan for my stepdad’s future as the prognosis was not good. It was all consuming and overwhelming. Worrying not only about my parents’ future but also how I could go back to work and look after them. Along with the grief that comes with watching your loved ones suffer so much. I turned to my Admiral Nurse for help who immediately put me in touch with Carers First. Carers First helped arrange a week’s respite in a residential home. This gave me and my husband the time and space to talk to social services/Doctors etc. It helped us plan for the future of my parents without having to make rushed panicked decisions.
