What you can expect if you win our trip to Lapland!
Published
30/11/21

We are running an incredible prize draw this year to fundraise for the support that we offer to young carers, this could help us run events, support groups, day trips, and learning and development opportunities.

Lapland offers a wide range of fun and exciting activities for everyone, ranging from learning how to drive a snowmobile, tobogganing, and sleigh rides to visiting Santa’s home In the magical forest and participating in traditional arctic activities. Carers First are so excited to be able to offer this amazing opportunity to travel to Lapland with Canterbury Travel, which is why we have put together a Q&A with them, so you know exactly what to expect if you win the trip!

Q&A with Canterbury Travel

How long is the journey to Lapland and how will we get there?

Our charter flight departs around 8am and on arrival, you will be transported by snowmobile & sleigh, across the frozen lake to your location for the day. Departure approx. 8:00pm and landing back to UK around 10:00pm.

What facilities does Stansted Airport have?

There are a range of cafes & restaurants within the airport, somewhere to grab a coffee and prepare for the journey ahead.

Will we have a guide?

Canterbury Travel work closely with local providers to offer the most authentic experiences however, the Information Desk in resort centre, is staffed by experienced, English speaking guides.

What are the top things we should do while we are at Lapland?

Your day will be filled with traditional, arctic activities – reindeer, husky and snowmobile sleigh rides are THE thing to do and we include them all!

When can we go to visit Santa?

On arrival, one of the adults in your party will register for the Santa visit and you will be given a time slot, to return for that very special visit with the big man himself.

How do the sleigh rides work?

Each activity is guided by a knowledgeable, local provider and you will simply take your turn, as many times as you like, returning to the things you enjoy most, time permitting.

We’d love to go tobogganing, what’s that like?

The toboggan slope is THE most popular area and you can freely use the sledges and join in! Children should be supervised at all times but, it is the best fun!

Is it dark when you go to Lapland?

There will be a level of ‘grey light’ as you disembark the aircraft but very soon, darkness will fall and the beautiful twinkly lights illuminate the snow to create the most wonderful atmosphere.

Will we be able to see the Northern Lights?

If you’re lucky! All you need are the right weather conditions and you are in exactly the right place.

What do you recommend bringing with us?

You need your own hats, scarves and gloves and layer yourselves up in regular winter clothing. Carry extra socks and some light snacks in a backpack, to keep you going.

What is it like meeting Santa?

Children should bring their letters or maybe a drawing, to present to Santa. He will be happy to meet all the children that have taken the time to visit him in his homeland and there will be an opportunity to capture a special photograph.

What food is available?

A simple, warm and filling lunch is offered as a continuous service in the restaurant cabin, at the centre of resort.  Things like pasta or jacket potatoes with a meat or vegetarian accompaniment, soup and bread and of course, the traditional favourites of pancakes and jam. Warm drinks as well as juice and water are also freely available throughout the day.  If you have a special dietary requirement, we do need to know in advance.

How long will we have there?

You will be on the ground for around 5.5 – 6 hours which is exactly the right amount of time for what we have planned for you.

What is the journey back like?

On the flight home, you will be served supper and a warm drink and then it is usual for the Captain to dim the lights and allow everyone a little snooze after their busy day.

We hope that you have found this Q&A informative and an insight to the fun activities you have a chance to try if you enter our prize draw! We are so happy with how our supporters are getting involved with this prize draw and helping us support young carers, and we can't wait to see how much we can raise before Christmas!
