Carers First are celebrating Volunteers Week from 1 - 7 June.
Volunteers' Week is an annual campaign, a time to say thank you for the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering. Join Carers First this year to recognise the fantastic contribution volunteers make to carers, through 1-2-1 support in telephone befriending and check-ins, organising events and support groups and more.
We were delighted to welcome new volunteers this year taking our total number to over 200 volunteers. Together, they have helped us support over 1,500 carers. Volunteers have helped carers access support and feel less isolated, raised our profile in local communities, fundraised for us at local events and much more. Thanks to their wonderful efforts, we are proud to hold the Investing in Volunteers accreditation.
Rahul works for Legal and General, a volunteering partner of Carers First and started volunteering as a Telephone Befriender during lockdown. Three years later, he still volunteers with Carers First.
"This experience has really helped me understand compassion, kindness and listening to someone who isn’t in your bubble of friends, family or colleagues.
The conversations I’ve had with my carer have made me want to connect more with my friends and family in person as much as possible (rather than a WhatsApp message or call)."
